About the Department

The Forensic Psychiatry unit is a unique operation within Sahlgrenska University Hospital, located in Gunnilse, about 20 minutes by public transport from central Gothenburg.

The mission of Forensic Psychiatry is to provide individually tailored psychiatric care and rehabilitation to patients who have been sentenced to treatment. The unit has both open and closed care facilities with enhanced security classification and also cares for patients deprived of liberty under other legislation when they require acute psychiatric specialist care.

Forensic Psychiatry has a societal protection responsibility, where the goal of the operation is for patients to manage life in society without reoffending due to mental illness. Thus, Forensic Psychiatry has a dual mission, both societal protection and care.

The unit has six inpatient care units, and in addition, there is an activity house, an outpatient clinic, and additional units with important functions for the operation.

Our units work closely with the research unit CELAM (Center for Ethics, Law, and Mental Health).

Job Responsibilities

As a treatment assistant within Forensic Psychiatry, you work both with care and societal protection. You are part of a team with several professional categories where you, as a treatment assistant, have a central and important role. Together with your colleagues, you work on a long-term care plan, where you have a motivating, supportive, and active role in the patient's rehabilitation. Documentation in patient records is also an important part of the job.

As a treatment assistant, it is part of your responsibilities to maintain a good working environment in the care unit together with your colleagues. Your approach and efforts are crucial for the operation to be characterized by calm, comfort, care, and safety.

About You

We are looking for someone who is trained as a treatment assistant/educator (YH level or 3-year). Experience in forensic psychiatry is a plus but not a requirement. Experience in relapse prevention and/or MI (motivational interviewing) is also meritorious.

Regarding personal qualities, we believe you are a calm and secure person with a genuine interest in people in vulnerable situations. You have the ability to listen, understand, set boundaries, and motivate. You are structured in your work and responsible.

We have a close collaboration with both our emergency units, which means that flexibility and teamwork skills are qualities we value in an employment with us.

As an employee, you are also expected to participate physically in self-defense training that occurs continuously at the workplace.
